Joseph C. Cane, Jr. is a founder and managing partner of Arendsen Cane Molnar LLP. Prior to forming this firm, Mr. Cane was the managing partner of Business Law Professional Corporation (BLPC), which he founded in 2006. Mr. Cane has 20 years of experience as a business attorney and advisor, specializing in representing individuals, entrepreneurs and companies in corporate, media, entertainment, technology and financial transactions. Mr. Cane routinely handles public and private securities transactions, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances, private equity and debt financings, film financings, intellectual property creation, registration, protection and licensing transactions, technology and on-line agreements, corporate formation and governance matters, executive compensation matters, board and investor relations and corporate and securities compliance. Mr. Cane is also an experienced commercial, employment and tort litigator and represents numerous non-profits and foundations.


A core aspect of Mr. Cane’s practice involves serving as general counsel and business advisor for many of his clients, including various start-up companies, wherein he oversees all major business initiatives and transactions, including joint ventures and strategic partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, financings, entertainment, technology and on-line undertakings, intellectual property creation, registration, protection and licensing, executive compensation matters and board and investor relations. In this capacity, Mr. Cane always strives to add value on the business side of such transactions, as well as, providing solid legal counsel, by drawing upon his prior business education and experience as a corporate executive to ensure that such transactions make good business sense and advance corporate objectives.


Prior to forming BLPC, Mr. Cane was a senior executive at Sony Connect, a subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America (Sony), which he joined in August 2005, and a member of both its corporate development and business and legal affairs groups. During his tenure at Sony, Mr. Cane was responsible for implementing a wide-range of new business initiatives and consummating deals involving digital distribution of music and video content via the Internet and mobile devices and related transactions with numerous internal and external partners. Among others, Mr. Cane oversaw and closed transactions with Starz Entertainment Group, LLC, ABC News, Intel Corporation, The Coca Cola Company, Juice Wireless, Reebok International Ltd., Red Bull GmBH, Nike, Inc., Showtime Networks, Inc., Sony Ericsson, Nellymoser, Inc., Alltel Communications, Inc., Sun Com Wireless and GeoTrust, Inc.


From 1998 to 2005, Mr. Cane practiced in the corporate department of the Los Angeles office of Katten Muchin Rosenman, LLP (KMR), a national firm. While at KMR, Mr. Cane represented various media, entertainment and technology clients, including significantly, Sony Pictures, NBC/Universal, Game Show Network, Mandalay Sports Entertainment, Prelude Pictures, The Jim Henson Company, Panasonic, Platinum Technology Inc., CinemaStar Luxury Theaters, Inc. and USA Networks.


Prior to joining KMR, Mr. Cane was a commercial and tort litigator with national law firms, Preston Gates & Ellis, LLP and Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi, LLP, specializing in complex civil litigation focusing on commercial torts, employment, product liability, class-action matters, intellectual property infringement and government affairs and lobbying. As a litigator, Mr. Cane has been lead counsel or second-chair in several jury trials, arbitrations and mediations, as well as, conducted extensive law and motion work, expert and lay witness depositions and various negotiated settlements.
